Membership in The Gem and Mineral Society of Lynchburg, VA, Inc. (GMSL) is available to adults and their children and/or grandchildren with an interest in rocks, gems, minerals, fossils, and related earth sciences. Come join the fun! Come join our Society!
If you would like to "check us out" first before applying for membership, simply show up at one of our monthly meetings and sign in as a guest. We will welcome you!
Membership fees are described on the GMSL membership application form. Forms are available on request by mail or e-mail, or as a .pdf file download from this web site, and they are also available at our monthly meetings.
Please complete a GMSL Membership Application form, enclose the proper dues amount, and mail both to "GMSL" PO Box 11975 Lynchburg, VA 24506-1975. You will receive a confirmation letter and your membership card by mail. You may also submit the completed membership application and dues at one of our monthly meetings.
We offer "Primary" and "Secondary" memberships. "Primary" memberships are for individual adults, 18 years and over, and also for their spouses/partners. "Primary" memberships include voting rights on club issues and election of officers. "Secondary" memberships are intended for other family members associated with the "primary" membership holder(s), i.e. primarily their children and/or grandchildren. "Secondary" members do not have voting rights.
We mail or e-mail one copy of our monthly newsletter to the "primary" member of a household. Secondary members (6 years and older) may join the optional "Rock Raiders" youth group of our Society.
Membership also includes the option to participate in field trips to collect rocks, minerals, and fossils, or to see special exhibitions. We also encourage members to attend our monthly meetings and to actively participate in various club functions.
