Kentucky Geode Adventure
THE GEM AND MINERAL SOCIETY OF LYNCHBURG, VA. INC.
ROANOKE VALLEY MINERAL & GEM SOCIETY, INC.

We were in an area with smaller streams joining a river.  The geodes were all along the banks.
This shot was taken holding my camera up under the boulder we were trying to chip geodes out of.

This was our second stop - this tiny creek yielded some great geodes.  Dee found all that she wanted right in the parking area!

"It's mine!"  "No, I saw it first!"

The third stop was on the side of a busy highway.  Cars and trucks were whizzing by;  the geodes had to be chipped out of rock or dug out of the road cut.  This was much more work.

Is this looking inside another geode???

No, this was taken inside
X Cave in Carter's Caves State Park
in eastern Kentucky.
Fred and Joanne find another geode along the creek bank.  Fred found one that was pale purple inside - the only one like that that I saw!  He always finds the color!!
Following the creek, we came to the banks of a larger creek or river.  Agate, jasper and geodes were everywhere.  I wonder what you can find when the water is down?!

Hoodlums?  No, this was the result of a car key rescue mission!  You've got to love duct tape!
Blood Root - The spring wildflowers were beginning to bloom.

A fisheye's view inside a geode.

Actually, Draper and Chris were not racing for the same rock.  Chris was searching for agate while Draper's focus was BIG geodes.
